Wat geweldig dat u geïnteresseerd bent in het adopteren van één van onze honden. Hieronder vindt u stap voor stap de adoptieprocedure. Als u vragen heeft over de procedure, kunt u een e-mail sturen naar dogsoaj@gmail.com.

Stap 1: Vind uw potentiële nieuwe beste vriend

Kijk naar de advertenties van onze prachtige honden die een nieuw huis nodig hebben. Lees de tekst en overweeg of het dier bij u past. U vindt informatie over hun compatibiliteit met andere potentiële dieren in uw huis, kinderen, activiteitsniveaus en meer.

Stap 2: Pre-adoptieformulier invullen

De volgende stap is het invullen van het pre-adoptieformulier onderaan het huisdierprofiel. Dit formulier helpt ons om te bepalen of u geschikt bent voor de betreffende hond. Zodra u het formulier hebt ingevuld, nemen we binnen 3 werkdagen contact met u op.

Stap 3: Intake

Naar aanleiding van het pre-adoptieformulier plannen we een intake in waarin we u leren kennen, al u mogelijke vragen beantwoorden en willen weten of u nog geïnteresseerd bent in adoptie. Indien zowel wij als uzelf na een positieve intake nog steeds enthousiast zijn dan evalueren wij het binnen ons team en zullen we een (virtueel) huisbezoek inplannen.

Stap 4: Huisbezoek

Na een positieve intake en/ of een kennismaking plannen we een (virtueel) huisbezoek met u in om te bepalen of uw huis hond-proof is. Tijdens het huisbezoek krijgt u alle nodige informatie voor een succesvolle adoptie. Vaak hebben we dan ookal een idee wanneer uw nieuwe beste vriend naar u kan komen. Samen zorgen we ervoor dat de overgang voor jullie beiden zo soepel mogelijk verloopt. Gedurende deze tijd maken we een WhatsApp-groep met u en ons team om snel informatie uit te wisselen en eventuele aanvullende vragen te beantwoorden.

Stap 5: Transportreservering (als de hond nog niet in NL/BE is)

Als het huisbezoek goed is verlopen en u bent zelf ook nog steeds enthousiast, reserveren we een plek voor transport. Let op zorg dat u zeker bent dat u de procedure dan ook volbrengt, dit brengt namelijk kosten voor de stichting met zich mee, die niet gerestitutioneerd kunnen worden.

Stap 6: Adoptieovereenkomst

De laatste stap voordat uw nieuwe huisdier uw kant op komt. Wij ontvangen in de week van transport het paspoort en de maten van jouw hond (nodig voor zijn of haar veiligheidstuig en halsband) en stellen dan de adoptieovereenkomst op. Wij verzoeken u deze zo snel mogelijk te tekenen en het resterende bedrag te voldoen op onze rekening.

Hieronder vindt u de gedetailleerde adoptiekosten:

In de adoptiekosten zijn inbegrepen:

• Paspoort en chip, let op: bij een Macedonische hond, dient u het paspoort nog om te laten zetten.
• Voor zowel de Roemeense als Macedonische honden dient u bij uw dierenarts tevens een importmelding te regelen.
  Aanvulling op bovenstaande: Indien u een Macedonische hond in opvang adopteert, komen deze kosten nog bij de adoptiebijdrage (paspoort en importmelding), voor een Roemeense in opvang hond is dit alleen de importmelding.
• De volgende inentingen: rabiës, cocktail en kennelhoest (mits deze beschikbaar is). Let op dat de lepto vaccinatie (ziekte van Weil) in Nederland en België meerdere varianten heeft, deze is in het buitenland vaak niet beschikbaar evenals de kennelhoest.
• Ontwormen
• Castratie/ sterilisatie (bij volwassen honden)
• Analyse bloed op mediterrane ziekten (deze wordt gewoonlijk niet op pups uitgevoerd, maar is indien gewenst wel mogelijk, echter zullen we deze extra kosten dan door moeten berekenen). LET OP: deze analyse bestaat uit een snaptest en in sommige gevallen een algemeen bloedbeeld, echter is een dergelijke test niet altijd sluitend in het resultaat. Daarom willen wij u dringend adviseren uw hond in elk geval het eerste jaar te verzekeren. Tevens adviseren wij u uw hond na een jaar nog eens te laten testen op de mediterrane ziekten.
• Een laatste gezondheidscheck voor vertrek door een dierenarts van de lokale veterinaire dienst

Adoptie met opvang op adoptie

In sommige gevallen bestaat de mogelijkheid een hond op te vangen zodat u kunt kijken of deze in uw thuissituatie past. In dat geval reserveren wij de hond voor u en krijgt u de gelegenheid de hond een maand lang op te vangen bij u thuis. Na deze periode laat u ons weten of u de hond daadwerkelijk wenst te adopteren. Wanneer u besluit de hond niet te adopteren, verwachten wij dat u de hond, zolang er geen passend thuis gevonden is, op te vangen. Als de hond verhuist wordt het bedrag van de adoptiekosten met u verrekend.

Bijzonderheden adoptie pup

Bij de adoptie van een pup jonger dan 3 maanden moet u er rekening mee houden dat deze pas met 12-13 weken mag worden ingeënt voor rabiës. Hierdoor kan het transport naar het buitenland niet eerder plaatsvinden dan bij een leeftijd van 15-16 weken. Een pup kan/mag niet worden gecastreerd/gesteriliseerd jonger dan 1 jaar voor een reu en niet eerder dan 3 maanden na de 1^e loopsheid van een teef. Wij verwachten dat deze castratie/sterilisatie alsnog gebeurt als de hond hiervoor oud genoeg is. Helaas komt het zo nu en dan voor, dat dit toch al te vroeg gebeurt in het buitenland. De kosten voor castratie/sterilisatie worden door de stichting niet vergoed.

Stap 7: Ready for transport (als de hond nog niet in NL/BE is)

Uw hond wordt door onze transportpartners uit het asiel gehaald. Afhankelijk van het aantal dieren dat voor de shuttle is geboekt, kan het transport meer dan 20 uur duren. De lengte van de reis is sterk afhankelijk van verkeer en grenscontroles. Hoe lang de reis ook duurt, de chauffeurs zullen voldoende pauzes nemen om de dieren aan boord te voeren en water te geven. Door deze omstandigheden is het voor ons onmogelijk om precies aan te geven wanneer de hond op de afgesproken ophaalplek arriveert. We geven u een ETA de avond voordat de hond zal arriveren.

Stap 8: Zorgvuldigheid informatie en medische zaken

Wij gaan zo zorgvuldig mogelijk te werk, aan geboortedata vermeldt in onze advertentieteksten kunnen geen garanties afgegeven worden. In de meeste gevallen gaat het sowieso om geschatte data. Wij beschikken bij het schrijven van een tekst nog niet over een kopie paspoort, deze kan dus afwijken.

Houdt u er rekening mee dat zowel de mensen in het buitenland als wij geheel vrijwillig onze vrije tijd opofferen en vragen u met een beetje respect om te gaan, voor het hetgeen wij zo goed mogelijk uit proberen te voeren.

Onze rescuers alsook wijzelf doen ons uiterste best gezonde dieren te bemiddelen. Ze reizen dan ook met een gezondheidsverklaring welke verplicht is. Echter moet u er rekening mee houden dat er altijd onvoorziene medische zaken hier nog naar boven kunnen komen. We adviseren u dan ook met klem uw huisdier goed te verzekeren (wij hebben positieve ervaringen met de Ohra).

Stap 9: U hebt met succes een hond geadopteerd!

Wat spannend, u hebt uw nieuwe beste vriend in huis. Spannende tijden, het zal voor jullie beiden even wennen zijn en onderweg zijn we er voor jullie. Adopting one of our dogs step-by-step

How amazing that you are interested in adopting one of our dogs. Below, you will find the step-by-step adoption procedure. If you have any questions about the procedure, please email dogsoaj@gmail.com.

Step 1: Find your potential new best friend

Look at the profiles of our wonderful dogs needing a new home. Read the text and consider whether the animal is a good fit for you. You will find information about their compatibility with other potential animals in your home, children, activity levels, and more.

Step 2: Fill out the pre-adoption form

The next step is to fill out the pre-adoption form at the bottom of the pet profile. This form helps us determine your suitability for the dog in question. Once you have completed the form, we will contact you within 3 business days.

Step 3: Intake

Following the pre-adoption form, we will schedule an intake where we will get to know you, answer all of your possible questions, and want to know if you are still interested in adoption. If both we and you are still enthusiastic after a positive intake, we will evaluate it within our team and schedule a (virtual) home visit.

Step 4: Home visit

After a positive intake and/ or introduction, we will schedule a (virtual) home visit with you to determine if your home is dog-proof. During the home visit, you will receive all the necessary information for a successful adoption. Often we also have an idea when your new best friend can come to you. Together, we make sure the transition is as smooth as possible for both of you. During this time, we create a WhatsApp group with you and our team to quickly exchange information and answer any additional questions.

Step 5: Transport reservation (if the dog is still outside of NL/ BE)

If the home visit went well and you yourself are still excited, we will reserve a spot for transportation. Please note: make sure that you are sure to complete the procedure then, as this will incur costs for our foundation, which cannot be refunded.

Step 6: Adoption agreement

This is the last step before your new pet arrives. During the week of transport, we receive your dog’s passport and measurements (needed for his or her safety harness and collar) and then prepare the adoption agreement. We ask that you sign it as soon as possible and pay the remaining amount into our account.

Below are the detailed adoption fees:

The adoption fee includes:

• Passport and chip
• The following vaccinations: rabies, cocktail and kennel cough (if available). Please note that the lepto vaccination (Weil’s disease) has several variants in the Netherlands and Belgium, it is often not available abroad as well as kennel cough.
• Deworming
• Castration/ sterilization (adult dogs)
• Analysis of blood for Mediterranean diseases (this is usually not performed on puppies, but is possible if desired, however, we will then have to charge these extra costs). NOTE: this analysis consists of a snap test and in some cases a general blood test. However, such a test is not always conclusive in results. Therefore, we strongly advise you to insure your dog for at least the first year. We also advise you to have your dog tested again for Mediterranean diseases after one year.
• A final health check before departure by a veterinarian of the local veterinary service

Adoption with option of adoption

In some cases it is possible to temporarily take in a dog so that you can see whether it suits your home situation. In that case, we will reserve the dog for you and you will have the opportunity to care for the dog at your home for a month. After this period, you let us know whether you actually wish to adopt the dog or not. If you decide not to adopt the dog, we expect you to take care of the dog until a suitable home has been found. Of course, once the dog moves, the amount of the adoption costs will be settled with you.

Adopting a puppy

When adopting a puppy younger than 3 months, please note that it may not be vaccinated for rabies until 12-13 weeks of age. Because of this, transportation abroad cannot take place until 15-16 weeks of age. A puppy cannot/ may not be castrated/ sterilized if younger than 1 year for a male dog and not earlier than 3 months after the first heat for a female. We expect the castration/ sterilization to be done when the dog is old enough to do so. The costs for castration/ sterilization will not be reimbursed by the foundation.

Step 7: Ready for transport (if the dog is still outside of NL/ BE)

Your dog will be picked up from the shelter by our transport partners. Depending on the number of animals booked for the shuttle, the transport may take more than 20 hours. The length of the trip is highly dependent on traffic and border controls. No matter how long the trip is, the drivers will take plenty of breaks to feed the animals on board and give them water. Due to these circumstances, it is impossible for us to indicate exactly when the dog will arrive at the agreed upon pick-up location. We will give you an ETA the evening before the dog will arrive.

Step 8: Accuracy of information and medical issues

We are as careful as possible, birth dates mentioned in our advertisements cannot be guaranteed. In most cases, these are estimated dates anyway. We do not yet have a copy of the passport at the time of writing, so this may vary.

Please keep in mind that both we and our rescuers volunteer for DOAJ in our free time and ask for a little respect for what we try to do as good as we can.

Our rescuers, as well as ourselves, do our utmost to mediate healthy animals. They travel with a health certificate which is mandatory. However, you should keep in mind that unforeseen medical issues can always arise. We strongly advise you to insure your pet well (we have positive experiences with Ohra).

Step 9: You have successfully adopted a dog!
